Sharing music from St Eanswythe's School, Kent

Christmas Church Service 2011

A huge well done to all the children who took part in today’s fabulous Church Service. I was a very happy and proud Music teacher today!

Here are the recordings of the children’s efforts. Please feel free to download to share with families and friends. Please keep your positive comments coming.

At St Eanswythe’s I like to think that Music is a team effort, between support staff, teaching staff, myself and Mr Liddle, so thank you and well done everyone!

May I wish you a very merry Christmas!!!

The CD is nearly ready!

Tonight, I have just finished sorting through the final drafts for the Art work for the School CD.

Children who have had their Art work included on the CD will be announced on Friday, in the newsletter.

Final edits of the recordings have been signed off – now we wait for the CD’s in eager anticipation.

I’d like to say a personal huge ‘thankyou’ to Mr T Liddle for his playing on the CD; the children are indeed lucky to have such a talented pianist among their class teachers.

Keep your pre-orders coming…we have ordered a limited number of CD’s so don’t miss out!

CD!!!

Today  and yesterday we all worked very hard to rehearse and produce a tip-top CD for the school. After  a tense half an hour when the Church was plunged into darkness and electric power failure by a power cut, staff rallied to connect up power to the church across the graveyeard!

The children did not disappoint!!! Thank you to all children and staff, including Simon Vout, Jan, Alex and Bob Cass for helping to making this project such a success. Watch this space for previews and more news. The CD will be on sale in time for Christmas at a cost of £10.

Forms will be coming from school soon, so pre-order to avoid disappointment!

Now we can all have a well-earned half-term break!

Food Glorious Food

Hello,

Here are some provisional solos for the Cd recording, based on work on Friday and individuals wishes to do solos. We may need to change things a little, but if you can sing along with the backing so you know how your part goes…Good Luck!

All normal type is for everyone to sing. That in italics, is solos – with the name at the beginning of the line.

CD Recording

You may have heard that we shall be recording a professional CD which will be on sale in time for Christmas. Each class will be singing one or more items, so that all children will take part. There is also the opportunity for children who would like, to audition for solos within their class pieces and also for a special item. The item is ‘who will buy?’ from Oliver. We shall be looking for solos / small groups for all of the street sellers. If you are interested to try for a solo, auditions will be held soon. In the meantime, music which needs to be learnt for the audition can be found here.

Who will buy complete

Who will buy backing

You will appreciate that these have NOT been professionally recorded so there may be some hissing!

You will find a backing track so you can sing along, and a track with the parts added, so you know how they go. We will also look at them in class music so you know how to sing them. All items on the blog can be downloaded to an MP3 player, your computer or CD.  Sheet music can be collected from Miss Harris on a Friday, or from the office.

Keep looking on the blog for the backings for other pieces we are going to perform, so that you can practise at home, to make the recording as good as it can be. We hope to record just before, or just after half term.

To keep you updated on blog posts including downloads available please  email subscribe on the right hand side of the page.

Notes from the Judges Bench

Tonight saw a wonderful evening of talented youngsters performing in the annual St Eanswythe’s Talent show.

There were four of us called upon to ‘judge’ the show. This proved rather more difficult than any of us anticipated. A long list of 20 acts competed for the 3 prized rosettes and 3 commendations. The truth of the matter was that there were too many children worthy of the too few rosettes.

Ordinarily, with winners come losers too but there were no losers in tonight’s proceedings. Every child that competed showed courage and their own special talents, which made it such a privilege to watch and be a part of.

In my summing up, it was impossible to include all the children and all the acts, and to include the thoughts of my fellow judges. So here are our thoughts.

Tia

Lovely voice, with good pitch control. The upper range was particularly good. The movement was well done and well in time. You have a lovely presence on stage. Make sure the movement doesn’t interfere with the singing.  Each time you sing the same words, find something different to say and keep your energy up and communicate with your audience. An excellent start!

Sare

What a refreshing smile! You sang charmingly and moved with grace across the stage. Don’t forget to really sell the song to us. Parts of the song were very low, project these as much as the higher parts. Try to communicate the meaning of the song more, even when the song is in a different language.

Abigail

Your voice and performance were well-focussed and you had good vibrato. You were nicely in tune. A little more energy throughout would have helped increase your presence on stage.

Danny, Joseph and Jay

Good presentations – excellent costumes! Be clear who does what and keep the pace going. An original idea and some comedy moments, intentional or otherwise!

Nyasha

A lovely voice although finding the pitch in this particular piece was quite difficult. Try to connect more with your audience and keep the energy level up. Some good use of expression in the words, more of this please! Be careful not to distract from your performance by fiddling with your skirt. You have personality in abundance, use it more!

Holly and Seliholm

A good entry onto the stage. Some lovely flexibility in the dance. More use of the space on the stage would have helped make the dance even better. Good attempts to dramatise the words and good co-ordination between to the two of you. Holly your stage presence was good. Seliholm, try to make eye contact with the audience, moving the dance further forward would have helped.

Zeena

What a gorgeous voice! especially in the upper reaches. You were always in tune. The movement could have been a bit more varied, side-to-side made us a bit dizzy! Try being a bit more expressive – your performance would be even more powerful. Excellent work!

Hayley

Your performance started a little shakily. Finding the starting note was hard in this song. You carried on and worked through it, without letting the audience know – well done! Be careful that you choose an appropriate move during the instrumental and make it seem like it grows out of the music rather than is an afterthought. Your vocals improved as the song went on but the song did not do your great voice justice today.

Alana

How brave you were to sing unaccompanied! And well done for carrying it off so well. You had a lovely way with you when you sang and your voice came over very well. Your presence on stage was good too. An unusual choice of song.

Adelaide – 1st Place

Lovely costume, and nice variety of dance moves, mixing various types of dance, including bangra, ballet and baton! Excellent use of smiling and keeping the audience involved. Some good use of the stage space. Lovely finish and a polished performance.

Greta

Good use of the stage. Good entry and interesting starting position. Be confident to keep in time to the music always and make sure you sell us the routine by looking up, at us and enjoying what you do all the time. Make sure you keep on the balls of your feet when you tap dance. Some lovely moments and what a lovely smile you have. Use it more!

Olivia

A confident and really tuneful rendition. I think that there is an amazing voice in there. You need to find your own style and sound which will be fantastic, judging by today’s singing. You could try moving a little more. You were very near to winning a prize. Well done!

Jackson, Daisy and Katie

This was a very impressive entry. You sang very well together, holding your pitch brilliantly. It was good fun, well danced and it put a smile on all our faces…especially the impromptu hula dancing, Jackson!!! Girls, you were extremely well co-ordinated. Again narrowly missed a prize!

Laura and Agnes – Well Done Rosette

Some really good singing. Laura, you connected with the text and the audience. Agnes, you have a lovely voice, project your personality. Your movements made us a little sea sick…try keeping still for a song like this. When you sing a duet, perhaps add in some harmonies or have some solos to add interest – a heartfelt rendition.

Molly –Well done Rosette

A well-learnt and well thought-out item. Excellent diction and attempt at dramatisation. We liked the use of the mask, but try to face the audience more. The characterisation of the 2 characters was a challenge that you rose to. A very interesting and imaginative item! Well done.

Hannah 3rd Place

Well done! What a lovely performance. You were charming and quietly confident. For the future, be careful not to make the bottom of the voice too heavy and work on the upper range and try to find your own style. This was excellent!

Holly and Jade

What wonderful voices! A shame you didn’t have 2 microphones! There was some expressive singing, but we wanted more connection to the words and audience. The solos gave me goose-bumps! Nearly a prize!

Nyama

Don’t forget to take off your shoes! Good costume, but don’t be distracted by it. Connect the moves more and keep eye contact as much as you can. Some really impressive moves, your smile is amazing!

Femke and Ruchia – 2nd Place

Wow! You wrote and recorded your own backing and co-ordinated a performance beautifully. That was impressive! Costumes were good and you clearly enjoyed what you did. You need to take the performance out to the audience and have more range of volume and expression to make what you do even more special. We were blown away!

Lucy, Brooklyn and Zara – Well Done Rosette

Good entry. Connect the moves you do, to create a seamless dance. You had great energy, but you need to maintain it throughout.  We all loved the costumes and the moves. The audience participation was inspired!

Eagles

Here is the work of the Eagles!

In celebration of the Royal Wedding  and to tie in with the Eagle’s work on the history of Royalty, we worked on creating an original fanfare, which heavily features a canon or echo effect. Instruments used included the modern boomwacker, hand bells and chime bars, as well as tambourines and drums.

The Eagles are an especially enthusiastic and lively group of individuals who rose to the challenge of working as a large team and producing some work showing excellent rhythmic skills.

Well done, Eagles
